Stephanie Campbell , owner of OneSquareMeal with a customer
One Square Meal is a newly opened business in Sault Ste. Marie. This is an age friendly business delivering healthy and tasty meals to senior citizens or those who find it difficult or tiresome to shop and/or cook. This service is available daily from 3:00 p.m. To 6:00 p.m. Research clearly demonstrates that many seniors or those with disabilities find the daily tasks of grocery shopping, prep, cooking, and cleanup to be exhausting and too often move into a retirement setting primarily for nutrition needs.
For only $15/meal, customers will receive one of eight different meals. Each dinner entre is accompanied with the customerís choice of soup or salad, dessert and homemade bread. Customers can choose from three kinds of soups, three different kinds of salads, four different choices of dessert and homemade bread.
First time customers will have their meal delivered in a disposable container. After the initial delivery, customers will be requested to sign up for a minimum of one meal a week and all meals are then delivered in reusable containers. Each customer is supplied with two sets of four (eight all together) reusable containers that are exchanged at each delivery. A $10 deposit for these reusable containers is requested. Using reusable containers is not only environmentally friendly but also more cost efficient in the long run which results in lower costs for customers. In addition, all containers are washed and sanitized to ensure cleanliness and save the customer the time and energy of clean up.
One Square Meal has been certified through Sault College and the Algoma Public Health for Safe Food Handling.
Cabbage Rolls and Perogies are purchased locally from St. Maryís Church and the homemade bread is purchased from Superior Bakery; all other meal options are prepared fresh from my home kitchen.
One Square Meal can assist clients with coverage through the Veteranís Independent Program for Access to Nutrition, with the completion of necessary paperwork, who may be eligible for a subsidy to help cover the cost of these meals.
One Square Meal asks that orders be placed 24 hours in advance of requested meal delivery to helps us maintain quality control. Short notice orders may be available but with limited selection of meal choices.
Gift certificates are available; consider purchasing a few for that parent or grandparent that you find so difficult to choose the perfect gift for.
