The Soo Thunderbirds seemed like a tired group Sunday afternoon despite beating Kirkland Lake 4-3. The Thunderbirds were outplayed for most of the game but they’re shot blocking kept the shots close and allowed them to outshoot Kirkland lake 29-24
Greg Sartoretto opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds when he beat the Kirkland lake goaltender five hole just 9 minutes into the game.
The second period saw the Thunderbirds go up 3-1 thanks to goals from Adam Ritchie and Darcy Casola. 19 minutes into the period Brandon Warmington took a five-minute major penalty when he slashed down one of Kirkland Lake’s players.

The third period saw Kirkland Lake take advantage of the Warmington penalty when they scored twice in 20 seconds thanks to Royce king and Tanner Lafrance. Kirkland Lake outplayed the Thunderbirds in the third period and outshot them 11-5. The Thunderbirds would take advantage of one of their only chances in the period when Adam Ritchie scored his second of the game and put the Thunderbirds up 4-3.
With the victory the Thunderbirds top off a great weekend that saw them go 2-0 against two of the best teams in the NOJHL. The Thunderbirds are back at home November 4th when they face North bay at 3pm at the Essar centre.
