
The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) 2012 / 2013 Accessibility Plan was distributed at Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
The plan was prepared by the ADSB Accessibility Committee and is updated annually to reflect the current needs of the board. The plan describes: (1) the measures that the Algoma District School Board has taken in the past, and (2) the measures that the Algoma District School Board will take during the year to identify, remove and prevent barriers for people with disabilities. The Accessibility Committee will forward recommendations to be included in the annual planning process.
Algoma District School Board is committed to the continual improvement of access to school board facilities, policies, programs, practices and services for students, staff, parents/guardians, volunteers and members of the community with disabilities.
The Board’s commitment to accessibility planning includes:
maintaining a Steering Committee;
ensuring school board policies and procedures are consistent with the principles of accessibility;
addressing children’s’ rehabilitation through accessibility;
consulting with people with disabilities in the development and review of its annual accessibility plans; and
improving access to facilities, policies, programs, practices and services for students.
Organizations are obligated under Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA) and the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario (ADO) to provide and make available to the public, an accessibility plan for their organization. The Algoma District School Board‘s Accessibility Plan will be posted on the board website at www.adsb.on.ca and hard copies will be made available.
