Dogs deserve their own fun day don't they? That's what Brenda Aelick from Highrail Kennel and farm believes and she wants you to join her on Canine Fun Day, October 13. "Since it is my experience that a good percentage of dog owners in this area are not aware of the activates available to them I wanted to show them. I believe the more you do with your dog the happier they are and the more well behaved." Aelick said.
The Canine Fun Day is open to all and promises to be a great day out with your best friend.
"With the addition of the demonstrations I hope to attract more people who just want to "look" and possible Learn!" Aelick said. "We are so very limited in this area as far as dog activities I am attempting to open the doors to new and exciting things for dog owners in the community."
Some of the activities include Agility demo's , herding demo , games to play with your dog and prizes to be won along with the best costume contest.
Aelick who breeds Australian Shepherds at her Echo Bay farm started the Canine Fun Day when she saw a need. "I was born and raised on St Joseph Island and moved to the Guelph area after graduating from C.A.S.S. " Aelick said.
"I moved back north after 25 years in Southern Ontario and was shocked at how little there was for people to do with their dogs here"
The fun day is much more than a "dog show" Aelick explained , telling LOCAL2.ca how the fun day came about. . While living in Guelph I started an annual fun day at my farm and it grew to the point it was almost to big, this happened over only a few years"
"Last year we had approx 40 dogs and I am hoping for lots more this year....it will all come down to weather !!" To find out more about registering your dog , call 705-248-3274
The Canine Fun Day is held at Higrail Kennels located in Echo Bay.
