The Sault's Earth Energy Concepts Wildcats had to settle for a silver medal after losing 4-1 to the hometown Sudbury Lady Wolves in the Wolf Howl Championship final this past weekend. Mikayla Ferlaino had the lone Sault goal in the contest. The Wildcats advanced to Sunday afternoon’s final following a 4-0 semi-final victory over the Lake Superior Voyageuses earlier in the day. Aleisha Labbe had the shutout while Ferlaino, Lydia Murray, Chelsea Gaudette and Vanessa Rota supplied the goals.
The EEC squad opened round-robin tournament action on Friday afternoon with a 6-1 setback to the Lady Wolves then followed up with a pair of 2-1 victories over the Rideau St. Lawrence Thunder and Lake Superior respectively. Darcee McCaig scored in the loss while Miriam Lavey and Murray each scored in the victory over RSL and Murray and Ferlaino supplied the offense against Lake Superior.
Next tournament action for the Sault squad will be the weekend of October 19th to 21st when they travel to Windsor for the Hoctoberfest International Female Hockey Festival.
