The Sault's U-15 Civic Girl’s soccer team will be competing in the Ontario Summer Games this week in Toronto. The 2012 games will bring together almost 2,500 athletes competing in 28 different sports in multiple venues across Toronto and its surrounding regions. Opening ceremonies will kick off the games on Thursday evening at University of Toronto’s Varsity Stadium, with soccer action taking place Friday to Sunday at Centennial Park.The soccer competition will feature many of the top U-15 female teams in the province, as qualification took place throughout the summer during the Ontario Cup Playdowns. The Sault squad was the lone Northern Ontario Region team to qualify and currently sits in fourth place in the Western Ontario Youth Soccer League (WOYSL).
Round-robin action for Coach Jaime Amaral’s Civic team begins Friday morning at 9:00am against the Nepean Hotspurs Octane and continues in the afternoon with a 1:00pm contest against the Burlington Bayhawks. Final round-robin action will see the Civics play the Vaughan Azzurri at 9:00am Saturday morning. The top four teams will then advance to the medal rounds. Other teams in the soccer competition include the Brampton Brams United Bandits, Thunder Bay Chill, Windsor Eastside Kickers and North Mississauga GU15.
