Two Dead in Manitoulin Island Collision Involving Dump Truck

Today, August 7, 2012, at 11:57 a.m. officers from the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 6, just north of Anderson Lake Road.

Preliminary investigation reveals that two passenger vehicles and a dump truck were involved.

Two persons were pronounced dead at the scene and three other occupants were taken to Health Sciences North in Sudbury.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator who are on scene at this time.

Highway 6 is closed in both directions at Clear Lake Road south of the Town of Espanola to Manitoulin Island. It is anticipated that the highway is to be re-opened later in the evening.
