Darnell NurseThe Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club is proud to announce that defenceman DARNELL NURSE will represent Team Canada at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament later this month. The tournament will be held August 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.

Nurse was one of 22 players who were selected earlier today following Canada’s National Summer Under 18 Selection Camp held this past weekend at the MasterCard Centre in Toronto, ON.

“The primary goal of our program is to have players who maximize their potential on and off the ice. One of the elite benchmarks for young players is whether they are selected to represent Ontario at the U17 level and Canada at the U18 & U20 level” began Hounds GM Kyle Dubas.

"Since joining our program just over one year ago, this is the 3rd time Darnell Nurse has been selected to be a part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence. Darnell exudes tremendous work ethic and character which compliment his skills in all three zones of the ice. Darnell's combination of talent and passion for maximizing his effort and potential each day are the reason he has been selected for the third time to don the Team Canada uniform.”

For Nurse, the Hamilton, ON product will look to build off this past season’s U17 participation with Team Ontario where he won a Bronze Medal and was named to the tournament All-Star Team.
He completed his inaugural OHL campaign (2011-12) where he appeared in 53 games (1g, 9a, 10pts) and was also named the Hounds Rookie of the Year.

Darnell and his Team Canada teammates will play in Group B along with Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland.
Team Canada will be attempting to win its fifth consecutive gold medal at the tournament.

“Our organization is extremely proud of Darnell. We wish him the rest of the young men selected the best of luck at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament” concluded Dubas.

Monday, August 13th – 8 a.m. vs Switzerland
Tuesday, August 14th – 8 a.m. vs Sweden
Wednesday, August 15th – 11:30 a.m. vs Slovakia
