Prime Minister Stephen Harper today congratulated Rosie MacLennan on winning Canada’s first gold medal of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in trampoline.

“On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate Rosie MacLennan on winning an Olympic gold medal in trampoline,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Rosie’s performance signifies a moment of great pride for our country, having won the first gold medal for Canada thus far in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Through her hard work, dedication and sportsmanship, Rosie has proudly represented Canada on the world stage.”

Rosie MacLennan, of King City, Ontario, began competing internationally in trampoline by age 11 and was the Canadian National Women’s Champion in 2005, 2009 and 2011. In the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Rosie placed 7th overall. In 2011, Rosie won a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships. This is her first Olympic medal.

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games are being held from July 27 to August 12 in London, United Kingdom. Canada is being represented by more than 275 athletes who are competing in a 26 sport program scheduled around London. More than 10,500 athletes, coaches and team officials from at least 200 countries are participating in these Summer Olympic Games.
