We here at local2.ca receive hundreds and hundreds of e-mails every week, but today this one caught our eye.
It's a brand spanking new high end resort that will open here in Ontario...sort of..
The e-mail, which is now making its rounds really makes you think.
In the e-mail, several pictures are shown asking you where this new resort might be.
It then goes to show you it's Canada's newest Federal prison! Recently built and opened outside of Toronto in Etobicoke . said the e-mail.
The point of the e-mail of course is to show how criminals are treated like kings in prison while regular hard working Canadians (many have to work two jobs to keep a roof over their heads) have a hard time just trying to get by.
It's also a jab at the current Federal Government for spending hundreds of millions on a new prison while many poor and elderly people live in less than ideal accommodations.
According to government reports, The cost of the federal prison system has risen 86% since the Harper government took over in 2006.
In 2001, it cost taxpayers $70,000 a year to house one criminal in a federal prison . That costs has now risen to approximately $100,000 a year!!
What do you think? sound off in the discussion section below!
to clarify the story. It's a new feature I started called "Local2 Inbox to show some of the mail we get on a daily basis. The actual author of the e-mail is unknown though it was sent to us by a viewer to find out if the information was true. That's why I posted it with a few other facts to make it more of a discussion.
Where the photos originated is beyond me. Unfortunately some took the article to be a hard hitting news story which wasn't the intent of the piece. The reason why I ended the story with "what do you think? sound off in the discussion" was to garner any input to what the e-mail was about.
I will continue to add this new feature from time to time on local2 - some of it will be silly, some of it will be controversial and some will be light heartded . Hope you all enjoy it.
