The war of 1812 plays a great deal in the history of Canada and the United States, and its being commemorated around the Soo and Area until July 21st. Celebrations occurred at Fort St. Joseph located on the South West corner of St. Joseph Island, on Tuesday July 17. Fort St Joseph was the location of the first military maneuver in the war of 1812.

Live demonstrations took place all day, including guided tours of the park, canon demonstrations, musket demonstrations as well as a $10 lunch that offered roasted pig, salads, beans and chicken.

All of the activities at Fort St. Joseph came 200 years to the day of the first offensive maneuver that brought the first movement of the British soldiers to Michilimakinac now known as the British Landing.
