It took almost 2 months, but resurfacing of the Second Line water tower is complete. Gleaming white, with the Water Tower Inn logo beaming on three very visible sides, Algoma’s Water Tower Inn & Suites has reclaimed and restored its landmark namesake. Hotel owner JJ Hilsinger chose not to use the current full logo on the tower.
“Since we built the first version of the hotel in 1974, Sault locals have always referred to the Inn as ‘The Water Tower’. This is our project to help celebrate the city’s bicentennial; we wanted to maintain that sense of local history and familiarity”. The Inn purchased the tower when the city declared it surplus in 2003. It was last painted in 1985. Accolades have been pouring in with praise for the tower upgrade. Now it’s time to quell curiosity, and tell folks how many gallons of paint it took to complete the job. This question was posted June 5 online in a contest to win a $500 Inn Gift Pack. Almost 1400 people participated.And the answer is….224 gallons, according to JDCMI, the company who took on the contract.
Two people guessed 223, and four people guessed 225; a random draw from these six contestants made Armand Grandinetti the winner, at 225 gallons. Congratulations to Armand, who wins the $500 Gift Pack containing a $250 Inn gift card and, among other items, two Algoma Fall Festival tickets and an Inn-branded blanket and bathrobe.
