Kleinhans, Thunderbirds Clean Up at Award Ceremony

John Kleinhans has been the story of the RBC cup for the Soo Thunderbirds so far, and Friday night he was recognized for his efforts at the RBC Cups’ awards banquet. Kleinhans was named the tournaments top goaltender, as well as the tournament MVP.
Kleinhans has played in all 4 games for the Thunderbirds so far facing a total of 193 shots allowing only 12 goals and leading the team to a 2-2 record through the preliminary round. Kleinhans also had a .938 save percentage as well as 2.58 goals against average.
The Thunderbirds captain Micky Sartoretto was also named as the most sportsmanlike player of the tournament. During the preliminary round Micky lead all Thunderbird players in points (5) and ended up second in tournament scoring only to Andrew Johnston of the Humboldt Broncos.

Top Defenceman – Troy Stecher (Penticton Vees)
Top Scorer – Andrew Johnston (Humboldt Broncos)
Soo Thunderbirds defenseman Chris Barclay also received the RBC cup legacy Scholarship award.
The Scholarship award was first established following the 2004 RBC Royal Bank Cup in Grande Prairie, the $500 scholarship is awarded to one graduating 20-year-old player from each of the five participating teams.
The next Thunderbird game is Saturday night at 8pm (E.T) where they face the Penticton Vees. (The game can be viewed on fasthockey.com once you sign up for a free account.) The winner of the game will advance to the finals, which goes Sunday night game time at 7:30, it will also be aired on TSN 2.
