Back in 1912, life was simple but also a time of change when life began to move quickly.
The most popular song of the time was Moonlight Bay, by The American Quartet, fashions were becoming more popular and changing quickly, the automobile was gaining strength in the market and cars were becoming stylish, Fenway Park was built and the Red Sox beat the New York Giants in the World Series. In that year, the Hamilton Ti-cats won the Grey Cup, the Mutual Street Arena was the home of the Leafs, and some of the most popular movies were All for a Girl, At the Foot of the Ladder, Aurora Floyd, and the Bandit of Topico.
Closer to home, W.H. Munro was our Mayor and the Sault became a town in 1887 and was incorporated as a city on April 16, 1912.
Many things have changed since then, some good and some bad, but the city will live on and thrive. It is the friendliest city in the world and boasts about having the best food (Italian), and as Mayor Amaroso puts it, is “hockey central.”
