As many of you read my previews for the OHL playoffs last week on the Local 2 sports section and saw my name, you were probably wondering who I am and what I was doing writing about the OHL on this news site.
Well I thought I would take the time to introduce myself and allow the readers of Sault Ste. Marie to learn a little more about me. My name is Anthony Bumbaco and I am 24 years old. I am a native of Sault Ste. Marie and have lived here the majority of my life. I grew up in the Sault playing minor hockey and baseball until I graduated from high school in 2006. I spent four years attending Laurentian University to get my B.A. in History and this past year in Belleville, Ontario attending Loyalist College for their post-graduate Sports Journalism program.
Over the course of the next month I will be serving as an intern in the sports department for Local 2 news as part of my requirement for graduation. Now you may be thinking what does a 24 year old kid know about sports? Well, let me tell you that first and foremost I am a fan of all sports but have the ability to talk about and analyze sport from an objective level. I am interested in various sports from baseball to curling and everything in between. More importantly, I am interest in sports at all levels and both on the national and local level.
My goal over the next month will be to bring to you, the readers of Sault Ste. Marie the most significant sports stories on a regular basis. I will do my best to ask athletes, coaches and others the questions that you, the reader, want answers to. More importantly, my goal will be to try to provide a wide-range of coverage to local athlete in Sault Ste. Marie that are often overlooked but who are worthy of media attention and to have their name recognized.
I hope to provide all of this using the various skills I acquired to interview, use video/video editing, audio and of course strong broadcast and print style journalistic writing. I look forward to the opportunity I have been afforded here at Local 2 as the intern sports director and hope that you, the reader will both enjoy my work and provide positive feedback.
In keeping with my promise to provide the coverage you want, I am always willing to take story ideas and event requests. If you would like to contact me please do so at: firstname.lastname@example.org
