The SUFC Soccer Academy is pleased to announce that we are working with Lake Superior State University, to develop a Club soccer program for both men and women. The program will get underway in the new-year. Club teams will compete in competition against other Michigan colleges and universities. This is not NCAA competition, but is a way to bring soccer to LSSU. League competition will begin in 2012 with training to start early in the new-year. Lori Shimasaki (Club Sports Coordinator) and the club sports department at LSSU, are committed to seeing a soccer program develop.
The SUFC Academy will be providing the coaching. Head coach Bill Howe will be directing the program. Other Academy coaches, Jeff Coccimiglio, Anthony Fiore, Aniela Pulice and Deanrda Franzizi, all former university players, will assist. The Academy is excited to be working with LSSU. This is a great opportunity for our coaches and players. We believe the key to success will be in developing players on both sides of the border and we are working towards a summer camp next year at LSSU. Senior players with the Academy, will have the opportunity to train with the university teams. This is an opportunity for all Academy players to attend university locally and continue with their soccer careers.
We are excited to be working with LSSU and believe this will be a partnership that will benefit both parties. Adding soccer to the club sports department, will add to the already excellent reputation that Lake State has in athletics.
