Yes the bridge was closed to all vehicles for approximately two hours on Saturday morning to host the 26th Annual Bridge Walk. New to the event was a Bridge Bicycle Parade where approximately 100 cyclists performed their favourite pass time the distance of the bridge and back. Mind you there were a few that didn’t do the ride back but they had a ball doing their share.

Immediately following the bike ride, the walkers took over and walked the span. There were from the very young in strollers to the very young at heart at over the age of seventy?

According to officials, the number of walkers exceeded the 5000 mark, which set a new record for the event. They were totally caught off guard with that number. Everybody seemed to have a great time and await next years walk/ride.

2012 BRIDGE WALK

This is just one event that helped Canada celebrate our upcoming birthday, Canada Day. Along with this, the Ride for Sight also is going on at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion. Entertainment, fun and games are scheduled all day today.

Sault Ste. Marie Mayor, Debbie Amaroso was one of over 5,000 people who walked the span of the International bridge Saturday morning.
