Just when women are finally getting enough self esteem to be comfortable with their bodies, and realize that we are all beautiful in many ways even though that may mean we are not Playboy centrefolds, someone has come out with a product that once again gives us reason to be ashamed about being female.

XXX is a new product designed to help cover up those genital odors. The ad runs something like this :ĒIf you wash with soap and water and it still isnít enough to get rid of those embarrassing odours, you need (XXX).Ē

Now your vagina can smell like roses in bloom, or cinnamon and apple pie. Or would you prefer natural odors like cedar or lilac?

(Hereís a hint before you choose your own personal vaginal perfume.

If washing with soap and water does not make UNPLEASANT odors go away, YOU DONíT NEED A FLORIST, YOU NEED A DOCTOR.

Women who bathe regularly do not need this product. Itís just one more way that the cosmetic companies hope to make money on the fears of women...the fear that there is something wrong with them and that their own natural scent is something to be avoided at all cost.

And just when I thought that that product was unnecessary, I read about a new surgery designed for women . ( I had to read the ad twice to make sure that I was interpreting the copy correctly) Itís a new surgery that lets you choose how your female parts can be improved upon.

Yes, itís time to get rid of that old vagina and give it a new flair ! I have one, okay maybe a few, questions), Who has the proper shape of sexual organs that we should emulate? Who judges them? Is there a catalogue somewhere that we can peruse to help us decide what our new vagina should look like? Does it show us the top ten vaginal designs? And just who decides which vagina is better? You can bet that that job was probably high on the list of people who wanted that job. (ď Iíll be a little late for supper dear. I have to do some research for a new medical procedure.Ē)

And still there is one more cosmetic procedure being performed in beauty salons or if you are embarrassed, do-it-yourself creams and oils.

The lightning of your nipples, vagina and anus! This one is touted for males too.

Who in the world thought this one up? Someone with not much going on in their lives I guess. Iím not sure how it will work on people of color.

Do you really want an anus or vagina that glows in the dark?? Does your sex partner really need a bulls eye to guide him in for a landing?

Do you think your partner will really be enchanted when he/she finds your breasts now have lighter nipples? And if he/she, does, Why?

I find it awful that young girls and even some older women are embarrassed by their bodies and often feel that they are not as beautiful as they should be. There are probably a lot of young men out there who have never seen breasts that are natural. Only large round balls that barely move at all. And young girls are dying to get breasts just like their female vocalists or models that they see every day on television.

I find it sad that our daughters and granddaughters are so desperate to look like someone else, that they donít believe their own bodies are beautiful.

I hope you donít find this column offensive, but if you do, remember that Vagina is not a dirty word. Whatís dirty, is the cosmetic industry trying to tell us that we are not good enough just the way we are.

Until next time, take care
